Boys will be Girls?

The New York Times recently published an article which talked in great detail about the gender problems that today's children are faced with. In this article, the writer talked about how today's society is becoming more and more understanding and tolerant towards these children who are facing these unfortunate circumstances.

I am not a parent. I have never had the privilege of raising children although I do hope to have that privilege someday. I am not an expert in child psychology and I don't have any credentials, which would "deem" me a credible source for understanding child development. I am simply a man with a question, and my question is this.

Should Parents "foster" this kind of behavior in their children?

What is the role of a parent (if any) when faced with this situation in their child?
