This is just another amazing display of what happens when a fool acquires large amounts of money. Proverbs 17:16 says it this way: “Of what use is money in the hand of a fool, since he has no desire to get wisdom?”
This is a prime example of how choosing a sports figure to become a role model for you or your children can be a dangerous thing. There are some smart ones out there, but the majority start life by pursuing a game wholeheartedly while shrugging off the acquisition knowledge and seeking of wisdom. Then, because professional teams don’t care if you have a brain in your head but only care if you can bounce, throw, or kick a ball in a certain way, a moron can achieve great wealth. And a fool will think that he is smart because of this and will in turn become a narcissistic moron spending his money in any way but wisely while spewing ignorance every chance he gets because “a fool finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his own opinions.” (Proverbs 18:2)
Luckily for us, this fool has ended his political career seven years before it began.
So, umm I take it that you won't be voting for Mr. Barkley in any future bids for office?
On a serious note, I think you brought up a very good point about the people we so often choose as our "role models" in life.
I know that I have personally fallen prey to the habit of glamorizing someone for the worldly things they have accomplished (Tom Brady – 3x Super Bowl Champion) instead of the character of their hearts and a humility (true humility not just thanking God for allowing them to win a game and then living their life like they don’t answer to anyone at all) before a Holy and Sovereign God.
